GETTING TECH SAVVY: SRC ROLLS OUT AUTOMATED WAGE BILL MONITORING INFORMATION SYSTEM

Over the years, SRC has been undertaking a physical, laborious and time-consuming monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the wage bill in public service institutions. Further, due to resource constraints, SRC has not been able to reach out and monitor all public service institutions. Further, the voluminous information obtained during M&E exercises has compounded the data retrieval and analysis, making it tedious and time consuming. This, additionally, complicates cross-comparison of adherence from different public service institutions. To enhance efficiency and effectiveness, SRC has been keen to automate its systems and work processes.

Automation results in cost-saving, time and operational efficiency, freeing up manpower, increasing productivity and performance, minimising human error, enhancing data security, and ensuring greater customer satisfaction and service delivery. Consequently, SRC developed an Automated Wage Bill Monitoring Information System, which is expected, among others, to ease the collection and analysis of the public wage bill data, enhance cross-comparison of adherence issues, encourage and facilitate self-reporting by public institutions, and assist SRC in hosting a repository of the wage bill data.

In this regard, SRC trained several representatives of public service institutions from 24 to 28 April 2023, at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, Nairobi, to sensitise and build capacity on the use of the system.

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this training and roll-out of this system, developed by SRC,” said Commissioner Nelly Ashubwe. The training also helped to build knowledge on how to enhance efficiency in the use of public resources, and increase coverage of public institutions by encouraging and facilitating self-reporting. The training also helped to provide a channel for the collection of wage bill data, and offer feedback mechanism to public institutions on remuneration and benefits
