In collaboration with Saidika Organisation, SRC undertook a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to support 20 vulnerable households in Kibera’s informal settlements on 31 October 2024. Most of the beneficiaries were survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and children living with HIV/AIDS.
Through the efforts of the Corporate Communications Department, SRC provided essential food items, including flour, rice, beans, and cooking oil, to enhance immediate wellbeing and foster resilience within the community.
The CSR featured powerful testimonies from SGBV survivors, who bravely shared their experiences, shedding light on the persistent challenges they face. Their stories highlighted the profound impact of violence on individuals and the community, emphasising the critical need for ongoing support and advocacy.
SRC staff actively engaged with the survivors, listening attentively and offering words of encouragement, cultivating a sense of solidarity and connection.
Moreover, food donations were a vital part of this CSR initiative, addressing the urgent needs of the beneficiaries. SRC ensured that the donations were tailored to the specific requirements of those present, recognising that many survivors grapple with food insecurity, which exacerbates their vulnerabilities.
By providing these essential supplies, SRC reduced the burden faced by the beneficiaries, enabling them to concentrate on their recovery and overall wellbeing.
This initiative serves as a testament to the significant impact CSR can have on communities in need. By tackling food insecurity and giving survivors a platform to share their stories, SRC met the immediate needs of the beneficiaries and contributed to the move towards healing and empowerment.
