The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) deferred the implementation of the salary review for all public officers in the financial year 2024/2025 until further notice, contingent upon the availability of funding. This decision arose due to emerging fiscal constraints and budget cuts following the withdrawal of the Finance Bill, 2024.
SRC indicated that there was no allocated budget for the implementation of the advised remuneration and benefits for all other public officers for the financial year 2024/2025, which was initially set to take effect on 1 July 2024.
This decision was made in close consultation with the National Treasury, taking into account the principles outlined in Article 230(5) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, to ensure the fiscal sustainability of the public compensation bill.
However, SRC noted that annual salary notch adjustments within existing salary structures would continue to be applied within the budget allocation. Further, SRC indicated that no additional funding would be provided for implementing the job evaluation results in the financial year 2024/2025.
SRC also advised that public service institutions with Collective Bargaining Agreements affected by the deferred implementation of the salary review for the financial year 2024/2025, should engage with the respective trade unions accordingly.
