Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of Committee Member include:

  1. Active participation in committee meetings.
  2. Provide oversight and assurance on governance, risk management and control processes and make appropriate recommendations to the Commission.
  3. Follow up on the implementation of recommendations by internal and external
  4. Perform the roles and responsibilities as laid out in the PFM (National Government) Regulations 2015 as well as the Audit Committee Guidelines for National Government, 2016.

Requirement for appointment

For appointment to this role, a person should:

  1. Be a Kenyan citizen.
  2. Possess minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Commerce (Accounting/Finance option), Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Auditing, Business Administration or its equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
  3. Be a member of a good standing of a professional body such as ICPAK, ACCA, IIA, ICPSK or any relevant professional body.
  4. Have served at senior management level for at least 6 years with proven experience.
  5. Have in-depth understanding of the relevant legislation, best practices and emerging issues in accounting, auditing, finance, risk management, human resources, procurement, governance and other related fields.
  6. They must be a person of integrity and satisfy the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution.
  7. Not be a holder of a political office.

Reporting

The Audit Risk and Compliance Committee reports to the Commission.

Terms of Service

  1. The Chairperson and member of the Audit Committee shall be appointed on a part time basis for a period of three years and eligible for re-appointment for a final term of three years, subject to satisfactory performance
  2. Chairperson and Member of the Audit Committee shall be paid sitting allowances at rates as determined by the Salaries and Renumeration Commission upon attendance of meetings.
  3. Members appointed to the Audit Committee shall not be a present or past employee of the Commission and shall not have served as an employee or agent of any business organization which has carried out any business with the Commission in the last two (2) years.
