The Salaries and Remuneration Commission joins the nation and the world in mourning, with a deep sense of loss, the passing of the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, former Prime Minister.
The late Rt. Hon. Odinga will be remembered as a distinguished statesman, having made great sacrifices in championing for the expansion of the democratic space and the rule of law. The democratic space and personal freedoms that Kenyans enjoy today are largely attributed to his relentless struggle, often at the great cost to his own freedom and liberty.
His life was one of commitment and devotion to public service, having served as a Prime Minister, Minister, Member of Parliament and Party Leader for decades. He spent most of his life advocating and fighting for the betterment and dignity of Kenyans from all walks of life.
His unwavering dedication to national values, justice, equality, accountability and integrity epitomised true patriotism.
His inspiration transcended Kenya’s borders into the outer world, as millions followed his footsteps in pursuing the cause of freedom, justice, good governance and development that he so passionately dedicated his entire life towards.
The Salaries and Remuneration Commission conveys its deepest condolences to Mama Ida Odinga and the children, Rosemary Odinga, Raila Jnr, Hon. Winnie Odinga, and to the rest of the extended Odinga family, for this immense loss.
Kenya has lost a true statesman, a beacon of hope that placed his beloved country first. Through his inspiration and mentorship, the work done by the late Rt. Hon. Odinga will continue to thrive and blossom.
His legacy will immortalise him and keep his memory alive through generations to come.
May God rest his soul in everlasting peace.
