The newly appointed Chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), Sammy Chepkwony, and six Commissioners, including, Maj-Gen (Rtd) Martin Kizito Ong’onyi, Mohamed Aden Abdi, Jane Gatakaa Njage, Dr. Gilda Odera, Dr. Geoffrey Apollo Omondi, and Leonid Ashindu, took the oath of office on 20 January 2025.
The swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, was administered by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Hon. Winfridah Mokaya, in the presence of the Chief Justice, Hon. Martha Koome.
Their appointments were officially announced on 16 January 2025 through Gazette Notice Vol. CXXVII—No. 10. The new SRC team will serve a six-year term, during which they will oversee the implementation of SRC’s mandate of setting and regularly reviewing the remuneration and benefits of all State officers, and advising the national and county governments on the remuneration and benefits of all other public officers.
Speaking after the ceremony, Mr. Chepkwony reaffirmed SRC’s commitment to fostering fair and sustainable wage policies that align with Kenya’s economic realities, while ensuring public service efficiency and enhanced stakeholder collaboration and mutual cooperation.
The new SRC team has already commenced official duty with a litany of agenda items concerning the public service set for their decision-making, following the end of tenure in September 2024 of the last Commission headed by Lyn Mengich.
SRC expresses gratitude to all stakeholders for their continued support and looks forward to working collaboratively with all public institutions and other partners to fulfil its constitutional mandate and obligations.
