Judgement on House Allowance for Members of Parliament and Senate

The High Court, in a judgement delivered on 10 December 2020, in a suit filed by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) challenging the actions of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PARLSCOM), in awarding and paying house allowance to MPs and Senators, upheld SRC’s constitutional mandate as provided in Article 230 of the constitution, which is, to set and regularly review the remuneration and benefits of State officers; and to advise the national and county governments on the remuneration and benefits of other public officers.
