SRC Lights Up Lives of Children at Metameta Children’s Home

SRC undertook a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity at the Meta meta Children’s Home on 17 September 2021 in Kangemi, Nairobi. Established in 1999, the children’s home, which is camouflaged deep in the Kangemi informal settlement, caters to children abandoned or left behind by their parents and guardians due to a myriad of social challenges.

During the visit, SRC representatives appreciated Angelina Owegi, the director of the children’s home, for single-handedly setting up the home, and further encouraging her not to tire while taking care of the vulnerable children.

The home, which has 48 children aged between 3 months and 17 years, has received support from well-wishers over the years, however, their needs remain vast. “We have several needs including the payment of rent, food, clothing, school fees, and books,” observed Mrs. Owegi.

The Commission donated dry foodstuff, water, beverages, clothes, shoes, and books, which were received from some staff and their friends. “You are doing a sterling job in raising and nurturing these children, and so we are pleased to contribute to supporting the children in your home so that they can grow and prosper,” said Anthony Mwangi, SRC’s Head of Corporate Communications, on behalf of the Commission.

Mrs. Owegi thanked SRC for the visit and the donations. “We must strive to leave our children in a safer, peaceful, and prosperous world than the one we inherited. The world needs well-wishers like SRC to take care of Kenya’s future,” she concluded.

SRC identifies CSR initiatives as a niche through which it can contribute, however small, to improve the lives of vulnerable groups across Kenya, as well as enhance environmental sustainability.
