SRC Embraces Work-From-Home

With some nations either on full or partial lockdown, as a measure to help contain Coronavirus (Covid-19), governments are calling on their citizens to embrace technology to keep key sectors in operation as combating of the disease continues.

The use of online technology in the communications sphere has therefore proven to be an essential tool for enhancing efficiency while working from home. Through a government directive, Kenyans have been called upon to stay home, thus, working from home has become the new normal.

The Commissioners, staff and interns of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) are working from home and facing a very peculiar experience. With the usual physical meetings being replaced with tele/video conference meetings, the use of software such as Zoom has played a pivotal role and opened everyone’s eyes into the world of innovation and technology for ensuring business continuity.

The use of this technological advancement has proven to be effective since productivity and performance remains efficient as business is being transacted, though the home environment may not be work-friendly. Children screaming in the background, music playing, and dogs barking are hilarious common background soundtracks and interruptions in some Zoom tele/video conference meetings.

The tele/video conference meetings are indeed official, with high level decision-making that affects the Commission and its stakeholders. With SRC’s vision being a productive public service that is fairly remunerated, the Commission encourages all public servants to work from home, stay safe and embrace new technologies in executing their official business during this tough times, and still remain productive.
