Steering Committee Meets to Review National Wage Bill Conference Resolutions

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) hosted a National Wage Bill Conference Steering Committee breakfast meeting on the implementation of the resolutions adopted during the conference, which was held in November 2019.

The intergovernmental agency team and key lead actors involved in implementation of the resolutions attended the meeting on 27 February 2020, at Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi.

In her opening remarks, the Lyn Mengich, Chairperson, SRC, urged stakeholders to individually and collectively commit to the implementation of the resolutions not for themselves, but for Kenya. “You should be counted for having made a positive impact in the country,” she noted.

Speaking on behalf of the Council of Governors, Kisii County Governor, H.E. Hon James Ongwae, stated that SRC should take the initiative on national productivity and ensure the implementation of the resolutions. “Many times industrial actions and unrest distort the wage bill management,” he added, while emphasizing the importance of having good industrial relations.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Stephen Kirogo, and who is also the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, described the wage bill issue as perennial and until stakeholders involved are ready to bite the bullet and take a brutal approach, then all the work will be in vain. “We must however re-look the consequences of non-performance so as to ensure we have a functional and efficient public service,” he noted.

On his part, Hon. Dalmas Otieno, Vice Chairperson, SRC, implored the lead actors to ensure they implement the resolutions. “If something is to be done, it must be done,” he concluded.
