The proposal to ring-fence collaboration and cordial working relationship dominated a consultative meeting between the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), held on 24 January 2023, at Sarova Stanley, Nairobi.
The joint SRC/JSC meeting, was attended by Lyn Mengich, SRC Chairperson, Commissioners and Anne Gitau, Commission Secretary/CEO on one side, and Hon. Martha Koome, Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court, who was accompanied by Members of JSC, and Anne Amadi, Chief Registrar.
Addressing the forum during her opening remarks, Mrs. Mengich appreciated the Chief Justice and JSC for their presence at the meeting, which is a first between the two institutions in the recent past.
She noted that the meeting was a necessary platform to accelerate comity between the two government institutions. “Today’s engagement, therefore, provides a rare yet golden opportunity for the government institutions to enhance the existing cordial and mutual working relationship with respect to each other’s mandate,” she said.
On her part, while speaking during the meeting, the Chief Justice laid emphasis on JSC’s mandate, especially the duties of both the Office of the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice, JSC Commissioners, judges and magistrates.
“I believe both JSC and SRC have a duty to perform, and more importantly, to deliver to the people of Kenya,” she said.
On technical issues, the two institutions agreed on the need to come up with a technical team to help in addressing any pending matters.
The cordial engagement also agreed to the holding of common training sessions for their respective staff so as to enrich their knowledge on each other’s practices and procedures. This would aim at promoting informed decision-
